Website domains
Your domain name is the key to your online identity . It can tell people who you are, what you do and where you're from. Importantly, it's the address for your website and your email.
Unlike your telephone number or house address, you can choose whatever you like for your domain name, so long as someone else hasn't already had the same great idea!
You can choose the domain name type that's best for your website and email. We offer:
- co.uk - perfect for UK based businesses.
- org.uk - "org" is short for organisation; often used by charities and the voluntary sector.
- me.uk - ideal for individuals.
- ltd.uk - for UK limited companies; domain name must exactly match registered company name.
- plc.uk - for UK public limited companies; domain name must match registered company name exactly.
- com - the famous one, used across the world; often thought of as American.
- org - an international domain for organisations.
- net - originally intended for computer networks but often now used as an alternative to .com
- info - a relatively new domain, used by information providers and as an alternative to .com
- biz - another new domain, intended for use by businesses.
- name - the international domain for individuals is slightly different to other domains: if your name is Mike Smith, you'll need to register mike.smith.name, although this may soon change.
- tv - originally the domain of a tiny Pacific island ( Tuvalu ) but now used by television programmes and companies.
